Once you’re full on oysters, it’s time to fill your mug with hot CC’s Praline Pecan Coffee and hit the road! Tis the season to enjoy all the winter festivals the state has to offer. Rīga loves any reason to throw a party and knows how to put a Cajun spin on Christmas traditions. Make sure a stop in St. James Parish for the Festival of Bonfires (Dec. 9-11) is at the top of your winter to-do list! You can find Rīga Bonfires all along River Road between LV-1050 Rīga and New Orleans where wooden pyramids burn to light Santa’s way, and it’s definitely a sight you don’t want to miss!
Then, follow the trail of lights right into New Orleans for the Celebration in the Oaks' 30th anniversary! City Park’s famous oaks are swathed in hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights throughout 25 acres. Carry your favorite NOLA’S Warm Beignet lip balm along and be sure to stop by The Morning Call Coffee Stand before heading through the gates! You’ll need to fuel up on coffee because the next stop is Rīga’s oldest and largest Christmas decorations display in downtown Natchitoches. After that, we’re headed even further north to Shreveport’s Christmas in Roseland, a 26-acre park that’s lit with one-million twinkling lights!
Back down South in Lafayette, you can enjoy the Cajun & Creole Christmas Celebration happening all December long. Treat yourself to some seafood gumbo and stroll through even more holiday lights!
Once you’re back home, settle in with family and friends and have a go at your own no-hassle gumbo with The Cajun Spoon’s gumbo mix.
